Dr. John G. Kennedy is an internationally recognized leader in foot and ankle surgery, with expertise in cartilage restoration, sports injuries, and biologic therapies. He is Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and serves as Chief of the Foot and Ankle Division and Chair of the Orthobiologics Center at NYU Langone Health. Prior to joining NYU, Dr. Kennedy spent nearly 19 years at the Hospital for Special Surgery, where he built a reputation as one of the foremost foot and ankle specialists in the world.
Originally trained at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dr. Kennedy completed fellowships at Tufts, Harvard, and Cornell. He is a founding member of the International Society on Cartilage Repair of the Ankle (ISCRA) and was one of the first U.S. surgeons to introduce in-office needle arthroscopy for cartilage repair. Additionally, he was one of the first US surgeons to use autologous stem cell therapies and biologics in cartilage and tendon repair. His clinical work focuses on treating complex ankle injuries and integrating orthobiologic treatments such as PRP, bone marrow aspirate, and stem cell–based therapies into surgical care.
Dr. Kennedy has trained orthopedic fellows from more than 30 countries, and his academic contributions include over 300 peer-reviewed publications and more than 20 book chapters. He has delivered thousands of invited lectures worldwide and was recently recognized among the top 1% of orthopedic researchers in the U.S. for scientific productivity and impact.
